Get to Know the Therapist – Learn About My Background
Experience
I have experience of working with a wide range of issues, including low self-esteem, stress, depression, anxiety, relational problems, changes and life transitions, burnout, bereavement, loss and trauma. I have a professional interest in transgenerational, early-life and educational trauma, cultural diversity, career transitions and neurodiversity. I am enthusiastic about working with people in therapy, and I use Transactional Analysis (TA) to support people’s healing and growth.
Training foundations
I completed my initial training in Psychology (BSc), obtained my MSc in Addictive Behaviours and achieved my PhD in Psychology with a focus on motivation and emotion regulation at the University of Liverpool. I published work related to addictive behaviours, appetite, and motivation. I was involved in clinical and neuroscientific research, including for the NHS and the World Health Organisation and I taught Applied Psychology on the University of Liverpool MSc. I delivered workshops related to attachment, shame and emotion regulation. I use knowledge and experience gained during my academic career to inform my practice.
Clinical training
I completed diploma training in Person-Centred counselling, which operates on humanistic beliefs, emphasising looking at the whole person, individual uniqueness, our ability to make decisions and potential for growth. I am a Psychotherapist in the final year of advanced clinical training, currently pursuing a Level 7 Postgraduate Diploma in Psychotherapy (specialising in Transactional Analysis) at the TA Training Organisation in Leeds, which is a centre of excellence for Transactional Analysis and a UKATA Registered Training Establishment.
Professional memberships
I am a registered member of BACP and a trainee member of UKCP, UKATA, EATA and ITAA.
